بنی امیه را مهلتی است که در آن می‌تازند چون بینشان اختلاف پیدا شود اگر کفتارها به جنگ‌شان برخیزند مغلوبشان سازند. سید رضی می‌گوید: «مرود» بر وزن «مفعل» از مصدر «ارواد» است و آن به معنى مهلت دادن و فرصت دادن است و این از فصیح‌ترین و غریب‌ترین سخنان اوست گویا امام (ع) مهلتى را که آن‌ها براى حکومت دارند تشبیه به می‌دان مسابقه‌ای کرده است که در آن براى رسیدن به هدف، اسب می‌تازند که چون به پایان رسند نظم آن‌ها در هم شکسته می‌شود.
