از امام پرسیدند از این دو کدام برترند: عدالت، یا بخشش؟ امام فرمود: عدالت هر چیز را در جاى خود قرار می‌دهد و بخشش آن را از جاى خود بیرون مى برد و عدل تدبیرکننده ای، بسود همگان است و بخشش گروه خاصی را شامل می‌شود بنا بر این عدالت شریف‌تر و برتر است.
